Recently, the Beiguo app for Liaoning Daily launched a special event for the National Reading Festival called “Beauty of Books and Pleasure of Reading”. Professor Yu Miaojie, Deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress, member of the Standing Committee of the 14th Liaoning Provincial People’s Congress, and President of Liaoning University, was invited as a reader for the occasion. The original text is reposted as follows:
Introduction
Today’s reader is Yu Miaojie, President of Liaoning University. What he reads for everyone is an excerpt from his book “An Overview of Chinese Modernization” titled “Northeast China is a Good Place”. This also is the first theoretical research result by Liaoning University in the process of studying and carrying out Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Charateristics for a New Era.
Prof. Yu’s Text
Northeast China is a good region, possessing unique advantages. It holds a complete industrial structure of 41 categories and 666 subcategories. Its solid industrial foundation contains road and railway infrastructure that is second-to-none nationwide. There are hundreds of colleges and universities in Liaoning Province, cultivating the rise of a perspicacious civilization. It is rich with natural resources, including forests, oceans, and minerals. As long as its bottleneck period is overcome, the development of Northeast China will be even better.
To do this, we must implement the “two unswerving rules”. The key to their implementation is ensuring that economies under all forms of ownership have equal access to factors of production, fair participation in competition, and legal protection. What we have always said is a need to resolutely improve the business environment and make it law-based, market-oriented, and international.
Prof. Yu’s Recommended Reading
We now face a turbulent international environment, requiring arduous domestic reform and developmental tasks. However, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee, China’s economy has entered a new stage of development characterized by its high-quality development. In this new stage of development, we should fully understand modern developmental concepts, build fresh developmental patterns, and recognize a Chinese style of modernization. Indeed, the book An Overview of Chinese Modernization remains not only a study on the economic development and social progress of the whole nation, but in its latter sections specifies the economic development of Northeast China, including how can we realize an all-encompassing revitalization of Northeast China and achieve the “Liaoshen Campaign” in a new era.
