Yu Miaojie and Yao Shujie Selected Among List of Highly-cited Scholars in China in 2023

On March 27, the list of highly-cited scholars in China in 2023 was published by Elsevier, which included 5,801 scholars from 496 institutions of higher education, enterprises and research institutes. These scholars are from 10 different disciplines and 84 first-class disciplines, including 132 scholars from the economic discipline. Yu Miaojie, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of Liaoning University and Yu Miaojie, Dean of Li Anmin Institute of Economic Research of Liaoning University were among the list.

The list took Scopus, the citation and index database of Elsevier, a world’s leading information analysis company as the statistical source and adopted the methods developed by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. The result was presented from multiple dimensions to identify and analyse Chinese scholars at different stages of their scientific research careers and systematically display their scientific research achievements. Elsevier analyzed the performance of Chinese scholars’ scientific research achievements based on the following criteria: authors whose published scientific research achievements are included by Scopus should be in Chinese (mainland) institutions and their current work units are in China, including non-Chinese scholars; only the scientific research results published by such scholars as the first author or correspondent author are counted; according to the first-level discipline classification system of the Ministry of Education, Scopus classifies the scientific research achievements of these scholars. The number of scholars listed in each discipline is related to the number of authors signed from Chinese institutions in Scopus.

Scholars listed need to meet the following requirements: the number of articles included exceeds more than one; the total number of citations of the included articles reaches the threshold requirements of the corresponding discipline; at least one of the world’s top 1% cited articles should be included or the overall Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) for scholars as the first author or correspondent author is higher than one.
