From September 10th to 14th, 2023, the Eastern Economic Forum held in Vladivostok, Russia, was attended by Prof. Yu Miaojie, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee and President of LNU; Prof. Ma Shuang, Director of the International Exchange Office; Prof. Yin Hong from the School of World Economy and Politics; and Dr. Yin Ruyu, a young researcher at the China Open Economy Research Institute.

On September 13th, Prof. Yu Miaojie and his delegation attended the 8th APEC International Education Sub Forum of the Eastern Economic Forum, with the theme this time being “Shaping Individual’s Future: Individual’s Choice.” It was hosted by Polina Nemirov, Vice President of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration. In his keynote speech, Prof. Yu began with an introduction of LNU and then made a detailed discussion on topics covering improving the quality of school management, training talents, attracting excellent teaching resources, shaping students’ future, and helping them to grow, using economics as an example. In his speech, Prof. Yu stressed his belief that a great university is measured by positive recognition of its students, their parents, and society, where sound teaching and scientific-research personnel provide a sound R&D environment as well as high-quality support in finance and policies offered by national and local governments. Prof. Yu explained in detail that, first and foremost, in being both a national key university of “211” Project as well as “Double First-Class” university, LNU attaches great importance, based on its comparative advantages, to the development of disciplines like international economics, development economics, and regional country economics. Secondly, Liaoning University aims at strengthening the construction of its teaching resources by attracting and cultivating excellent teachers while simultaneously creating a competitive academic R&D environment to keep its level on a par with other top universities in China. Thirdly, by conducting brand-new reforms on talent education and providing comparison with internationally-famous institutions, Liaoning University is able to maintain an equal level in terms of its teaching systems and objectives. Fourthly, Liaoning University emphasizes the study of real-life problems in order to help the national economy as well as the local economy and social development in Liaoning Province, actively providing feasible advice to governments at all levels by building high-end thinktanks and other platforms. Lastly, Liaoning University is committed to actively expanding its international cooperation in order to improve the level of opening to the outside world and establishing cooperative relations with prestigious institutions so as to forge international connections on academic R&D in a wider and deeper manner.

Following that, Professor Yin Hong from the School of International Economics and Politics also delivered a speech with the topic of “Reflections on the New Modes of School-Enterprise Cooperation under the Background of Digital Transformation.” Professor Yin mainly made three points on the influence of digital transformation to the modes of school-enterprise cooperation. She emphasized that, first and foremost, as a product of economic and social development, school-enterprise cooperation should be constantly adjusted according to the goals and needs of the times. Moreover, Prof. Yin added, digital transformation brings many possibilities for solving common problems in school-enterprise cooperation and forming new models. Lastly, with the help of digital technology, the marketization practices of China enterprises can be more effectively embedded as cases into the teachings of western economic theory, thereby forming new theoretical thinking.

In summary, scholars from LNU, represented by Prof. Yu Miaojie, were able to tell the “LNU Story” well from an enlightened perspective and from different angles, thus creating a “Chinese resonance.” With such efforts, more countries will be aware of LNU and of China, which is conducive to enhancing the reputation of Liaoning University and the influence of China.
