Yu Miaojie Attends the 17th ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction

On the morning of June 26th, the 17th ASEAN-China Forum on Social Development and Poverty Reduction was held in Beihai, Guangxi. Professor Yu Miaojie, a deputy of the 14th National People’s Congress and a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th Liaoning Provincial People’s Congress, along with being Deputy Secretary and President of Liaoning University, was invited to attend the forum and deliver a keynote speech.

With a speech entitled “China’s Great Miracle in Poverty Alleviation: Facts, Reasons, and Experience,” Prof. Yu systematically expounded on the tremendous achievements China has made in poverty alleviation through the use of detailed data and vivid examples. He pointed out that China’s decisive victory in fighting against poverty is not only a historical miracle for China’s economic development but also an unprecedented historical feat in human poverty reduction for the entire world. Owing to the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China, the nation’s reforms and opening-up policies, and the development strategies of seeking truth and pragmatism, Prof. Yu substantially explained how these three factors contributed to both the major reasons and important experiential success in poverty alleviation. He emphasized that, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, China has creatively combined an active government and an effective market in order to produce a world-renowned economic miracle. As an important impetus to consolidate and expand the achievements of poverty alleviation, Prof. Yu also discussed his views and ideas on promoting rural revitalization from the aspects of seizing opportunities to transfer processing and trading industries from coastal areas to central and western inland provinces, as well as solidifying the regional industrial foundation.
